Job description - the role

The UI Engineer will join the FIC Sales Technology team, playing a key role in designing and building modern, intuitive and high-performance user interfaces that directly support our client's Fixed Income & Currencies (FIC) sales organisation.

Working with React, JavaScript, TypeScript, and modern web technologies, the UI Engineer will help create data-driven applications, working across core application components and platform capabilities, contributing to systems used directly by Front Office teams.

What you'll do:

  • Build high-performance, scalable software components using modern engineering practices and contribute to complex technical problem solving.
  • Support the design and implementation of distributed, service-oriented architecture, ensuring reliability and maintainability.
  • Create intuitive and responsive user interfaces using React, improving how salespeople access insights and manage client workflows.
  • Contribute to the development of data-driven application features that enhance sales workflows and client interaction.
  • Integrate with existing systems and contribute to the development of a cohesive sales technology platform aligned with strategic direction.
  • Work closely with sales, product, data, and engineering teams to gather requirements, shape solutions, and ensure successful delivery.

The skills you'll need:

  • Strong engineering background delivering complex web applications in fast-paced environments, with a solid grounding in modern software engineering practices and proven use of XP/agile methodologies including TDD, acceptance testing, pair programming, code reviews, and continuous integration.
  • Expert-level proficiency in JavaScript, TypeScript, React, HTML, and CSS, with experience building scalable, maintainable, and accessible user interfaces for business-critical applications.
  • Experience building microfrontend-based platforms for Real Time applications, including patterns for distributing streaming data, managing shared client context, coordinating cross-application communication, and maintaining UI performance under high-frequency update scenarios.
  • Understanding of Front End architecture concerns such as state management, performance optimisation, observability, resilience, security, and browser compatibility.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing strategies, monitoring, and operating production systems at scale.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with experience working closely with product managers, designers, Back End engineers, and business stakeholders to deliver cohesive user experiences.

Desirable:

  • Understanding of Front Office or revenue-generating technology within an investment bank.
  • Knowledge of FIC products (FX, Credit, Rates, or EM), or a strong motivation to develop this domain expertise and learn sales workflows.
