Team Leader Jobs
Reporting to the sales manager, the role of the team leader is to effectively manage the performance of a team of sales professionals within a company’s sales force. Fantastic interpersonal skills are a prerequisite, as is a solid record of surpassing sales targets in a previous role.

Job description

A Team Leader manages and monitors the performance of a team of sales executives, sales representatives or sales consultants.

It's the responsibility of the Team Leader to organise the sales activity of the team and motivate them to achieve agreed target levels of sales or appointments. Most Team Leaders are experienced sales professionals themselves and often maintain their sales activities whilst managing their team. However, some Team Leaders will concentrate more on the management side of things than the sales side and may earn commission from each sale made by their team or if they achieve their targets.

Whatever the nature of your role, some likely daily duties include:

  • Setting targets for team members to achieve.
  • Planning the team's sales activities.
  • Reporting to senior members of staff.
  • Interviewing potential new team members.
  • Motivating the team to achieve and surpass targets.
  • Ensuring the team adheres to high levels of customer service.
  • Developing new sales strategies.
  • Building and maintaining team spirit.
  • Handling complaints and more complex enquiries.
  • Informing the team of product and price changes.
  • Intensive liaison with other departments.
  • Ensuring team members issue invoices in a timely and accurate fashion.

Qualifications

Experience is once again a key criteria for employers. Candidates will need to be able to demonstrate a strong track record in sales as well as strong leadership qualities, preferably in a sales job within a similar environment or industry. Having qualifications from the likes of the Institute for Sales and Marketing Management (ISMM) or the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) will stand out on your CV.
